My Mama's still on her blog holiday and while she's doing all the fun Mama stuff like sorting out the linen cupboard and scrubbing the turrlet, I'm sneaking online ... How badass am I?
I tell you, I feel alot like Special Agent Oso!
So anyway, I overheard my Mama on the phone the other day saying that she'd been given a copy of this awesome book written by these two funny mamas, Gillian Martin and Emma Kaufmann. I even heard her say that she wishes it had been around when I was born. Something about lack of sleep and leaking boobs. Whatever that means.
"Cocktails at Naptime", I think she said it was called?
Is this what being a grownup's all about?
I didn't know what a cocktail was so I had to ask the little boy across the road whose mother likes to drinky drinky. Now that I know, I think I've discovered why my Mama wants us to have a nap so badly!
This book intrigued me so yesterday during naptime, I snuck ever so quietly out of my bedroom and passed Mama who was "sleeping" on the lounge herself (Isn't that what adults do after too many cocktails?) and got my hands on a copy of this "Cocktails at Naptime" ...
Hey, it has a fairy on the cover! Are they sure this is a book for mamas?
The book was great, I rate it right up there with "Bear In The Big Blue House" and Dora yoghurt ... even though alot of things went over my head! I also don't think the chapter about Sex and the stretchy girl applies to my parents ... You know, since they found me in a cabbage patch and all? That said, I really think that if they could get The Wiggles to sing that "Too Tired To Fuck" punk song they speak of then I'm sure it could be a Number 1 Hit!
The bit about the Yummy Mummy staus confused me abit though. All the kids at school, we think our mummys are pretty yummy ... even at 7am with their hair everywhere. Why do they want to do to the gym? Do they sell chocolate milk there or something? I'd be pretty keen to go the gym for some chocolate milk. Yes, that must be why mamas go to the gym!
What a book! What a cocktail*!
I really enjoyed the part about all the different species of mamas out there too. The problem is they didn't include my mama's one - Bogan Mummy* (latin name; Boganmeyer Shazzius). Sigh. It's a shame because Hi-5 Mummy sounded like lots of fun! Anyway, I'm planning on hiding this book in my Dorothy the Dinosaur backpack and taking it along next week when we go to playgroup, so the other kids and I can make fun of all the mamas while they're off yacking away and drinking coffee!
The thing I loved the most about the storybook though, was all the songs and rhymes that my Mama can now sing to me at bedtime! My fave is the new modern version of 'Jack and Jill' for harassed mums;
Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch some bottled water. Jack fell down, But it was sound As Jill had risk assessed the situation and provided him with appropriate head protection.
How awesome is that?
Pretty sure I might even go on to have babies in 30 years time (Mama says no grandbabies until she says!), just so I can read this book ... and drink cocktails at naptime!
Now before I go, I found an extra copy of "Cocktails at Naptime" in Mama's cupboard (I may or may not have been searching for Christmas presents!) and I want to give it away to YOU!
Just leave a comment below, telling me your favourite cocktail and I'll have Mama announce the winner this Sunday, 24th October. I should probably get her to do it in the morning before naptime. You know, so she won't be pissed* and all that ...
That's all from me for now everyone. Love, dirt and cookies to you!
* This symbol may indicate a fib. I have just discovered the joys of telling fibs.
P.S: Winner will be selected using Random.org
P.P.S: Nobody get their knickers in a knot, I am drinking plain orange juice. It's even diluted, because that's how I roll!
Lol love how this was written!
