How Hurricane Sandy made me realise that I haven't been desensitised by all the asshole-ness in the world.

I think we can all agree the world is full of assholes these days.
So busy and often, self absorbed that they are oblivious to those around them.

We see it everyday in places like our supermarkets and on our roads. I mean, some days you have just have to skip a beat when the light turns green and some bozo is tooting his horn at you!

Sometimes though, you hear stories that make you all warm and fuzzy. It really makes you remember that there is good in mankind.

This morning, I read one of those stories over my coffee.

Do you know what this here is snap of?

Nurses and paramedics transferring babies from the NICU in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Each one of those health care professionals is holding a piece of equipment or apparatus that is helping keep that baby alive. There have even been stories filtering through the media channels of nurse and doctors having to breathe for patients after back up generators failed across several hopsitals hit by Sandy.

Sometimes I wonder if disaster struck would I let my fear take hold and run for the hills, or could I put my needs aside to stick around and help those who truly need it?

This is a still from a recording of the deer's rescue, featured here.

This guy here, saw a deer being swept out to sea on a beach in New Jersey. What did he do? He chased after it, dragging it out of the surf and to safety.

Someone tweeted this shot of a firey saving a dog, swept by flood waters.

Another guy realised a stray cat had given birth to a litter of kittens in the alley next to his apartment block and walked more than a mile in the onset of Sandy to keep them safe and hand them over to a nearby animal shelter.

The mayor of New Jersey was trekking around the area on foot, coaxing the homeless to seek safety in storm shelters.

Then you have all the emergency workers, police, Red Cross workers and the like doing their thing and savings the lives of thousands.

And I know these things are so small in the grand scheme of things, and I know many of these people are just doing their jobs but the gestures, the selflessness are just ... well, it really does make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

There is some real evil out there and the world may be full of assholes but you know what? There is just as much good too - and I fret that little bit less for the world my babies will be growing up in.

Do these sorts of snaps make you feel a bit teary?
Or am I just a bit too in touch with mah emotions?

Does this one make you giggle?
